For those patients who are just beginning to see the signs of aging, or for those who don’t wish to undergo an extensive and invasive procedure, the mini facelift can provide an excellent solution. It helps clients to feel more like themselves by smoothing away lines and creases, firming the jawline, and enhancing natural beauty.

Dr. Engineer uses a conservative, subtle approach that carefully removes excess skin and tissue while taking care to preserve the spontaneity of your organic facial expression and your unique countenance. His refined sense of artistry will leave you feeling renewed and revitalized.

What is a mini facelift?

Across the world, there are many different definitions of what a mini facelift is. Most surgeons practice a mini lift that addresses only the lower third of the face and that uses a shorter scar, reducing downtime. However, in order for a mini facelift’s results to last for years, a deep plane lifting technique should be utilized. This is an advanced approach that not only smoothes the surface of the skin but also tightens the underlying SMAS muscles to help curb jowling and firm the upper neck. A mini facelift is a wonderful option for those in their 30s, 40s, and 50s who wish to rejuvenate their neck and jawline without the lengthy recovery associated with a conventional full facelift.

How is the procedure performed?

Mini facelift surgery typically takes 1-2 hours. Local anesthesia with a sedative can be used, thanks to the fact that only minor incisions are created. However, general anesthesia is always an option, should you desire it.

Dr. Engineer will create well-hidden incisions behind the ears and within the hairline. These are usually inconspicuous once they heal. After surgery, you will experience mild bruising and swelling, but it should be less than if you had undergone a traditional facelift. Most clients return home the same day as their mini facelift, accompanied by a friend or family member.

    What are the benefits?

    • Patients have the option of lighter anesthesia
    • Recovery takes less time
    • Shorter incisions mean less visible scarring
    • Cost-effective procedure
    • More dramatic results than with a liquid facelift
    • Firms the jawline
    • Provides increased definition in the lower face
    • Rewinds the clock on aging
    • Enhances your self-image

    Who is an ideal candidate?

While there is no upper age limit for a mini facelift, those patients with moderate to severe skin ptosis may get better results from a conventional facelift. Dr. Engineer will assess your candidacy during a private consultation and thorough review of your goals and medical history. The following are signs that a mini facelift might be a good option for you:

    • You are unhappy with sagging skin and wrinkles in the lower third of your face
    • Your busy schedule demands a shorter recovery period
    • You’re interested in subtle results with inconspicuous scarring
    • You are a non-smoker
    • You are in good mental and physical health
    • You are free from any significant medical concerns
    • You have realistic expectations for your results
    • Your weight is stable

How can I prepare for a mini facelift?

You will need to schedule a helper to drive you home and assist you with basic chores after your surgery. Make sure your living environment is set up to support a comfortable and stress-free recovery period.

Let Dr. Engineer know of all medications, herbs, and supplements you are currently taking, as he may have to adjust your regimen. You should stop taking OTC medications, such as aspirin and ibuprofen, before your appointment, as these can trigger excessive bleeding. If you smoke, you’ll need to quit for about 4-6 weeks both before and after your mini facelift.

On the day of your appointment, make sure your face and neck are clean and that you avoid wearing makeup or fragrances. You should leave all jewelry and accessories at home.

    What happens after my procedure?

Even though the mini facelift requires less recovery, patients will still have to contend with some downtime. The incisions will heal faster, however, since they are shorter than usual. After surgery, you will be wrapped in a bandage that will remain in place for 24 hours. Your total recovery time will be 1-2 weeks.

Dr. Engineer will provide you with pain medications, antibiotics, and a detailed aftercare plan that goes over wound care, bathing and showering, sleeping, resuming exercise, and returning to work or school.
